California Superbike School, Level 2
The California Superbike School was founded by Keith Code, whose books A Twist of the Wrist and A Twist of the Wrist II are still standard reading for riders who want to go faster on track. The school runs structured training days at circuits around the world, combining short classroom sessions with on-track drills and one-to-one coaching.
The programme is split into levels that build on each other. Level 1 covers the fundamentals of throttle control, turn points and steering the bike quickly and precisely. Level 2 focuses on visual skills: where to look, how to use reference points and how to widen your view so the track seems to slow down. Level 3 moves on to body position and rider input, helping the rider stay relaxed and keep the bike stable while it does the work.
Taking the levels in sequence is one of the most effective ways to improve as a track rider, because each session isolates a single skill instead of trying to fix everything at once.
Every session is followed by a debrief with a coach, who watches the rider on track and gives specific feedback on the drill of the session. The focus is always on technique rather than lap times, and many riders find that their pace improves naturally once the basics become automatic.
